The Railway

Thirsk Railway Station, famed for being far away from the centre of the town, you need transport just get there, now much diminished in importance, as evidenced by the lousy service provided since the railway's were de-nationalised.
The views have much changed, only the bridge and the lines remain.
The platforms have gone, during the last war extra lines were added between Northallerton and York to speed the transport of munitions, the outer spans of the bridge, which were once used a stables, gave way to the extra lines.
Thirsk of course, just to be different had two railway stations, the second, for goods only which closed around 1965, stood in the area now occupied by TESCO
